All HomeCover and ContentsCover from AA Insurance includes insurance provided by EQC. If a natural disaster strikes, EQC will pay up to $20,000 for your contents and $100,000 for your house (excluding GST).
If you need to claim for loss or damage caused by an earthquake or natural disaster, AA Insurance will pay everything over and above what the EQC contributes, up to the total amount of cover we provide on your HomeCover or ContentsCover.
The Earthquake Commission is a government body set up to help New Zealand homeowners if their home is destroyed by an earthquake or natural disaster. See www.eqc.govt.nz.
If disaster strikes, we’ll rebuild your home as new, to the same size, with the same or similar materials and construction – regardless of cost.
Yes, it’s really important to tell us about these things.
Make sure you insure your possessions for what it would cost to buy everything new if you needed to replace them all. Use our Contents Calculator to help you estimate
Let us know about valuables such as jewellery, antiques, cameras and computers so we can specify them on your policy.
We have standard limits for valuables such as jewellery, cameras and computers, and if we don’t know about the extra cover you need for your special items, the standard limit will apply.
Check our ContentsCover page or call us on 0800 500 231 and we’ll be able to tell you if you’ll need an increase on our standard level of cover for these items.
Back to topIf something you own is stolen, accidentally lost or damaged beyond repair, we’ll replace it with a brand new item, regardless of the age of the original. So if your five year-old TV is stolen, we’ll replace it with a brand new TV.
The only exceptions are clothing, footwear, toiletries and cosmetics where age, use and condition are taken into account.
For more information, see our Contents Insurance page.
Often you can speed things up by providing proof of ownership, and this can be as simple as the box the item came in or a photo of it in your home.
Your ContentsCover covers your family living with you at your address. This includes your partner or spouse, parents, mother, grandparents, siblings, children, grandchildren, in-laws and even domestic employees, such as a nanny.
However, it doesn’t cover people you’ve invited into your house – for example, party guests.
