Some tips to keep your car, home and contents safe during the rugby games.
Emotions will be high during the rugby games and your possessions may bear the brunt of the celebrations. If you make sure you’re prepared for any damage that could be caused to your property, then you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the games knowing that if something does happen, AA Insurance has got you covered.
Protecting your car
Traffic volumes will be high and parking will be at a premium during the games, no matter where they’re being played. The more cars there are on the road, the higher the chances are of getting into a car accident.
Always remember to get the name, phone number, registration number, and insurance provider of the other person/s involved in the accident. It also helps to have our claims number handy (0800 500 216) so that if the unexpected happens, we can help you get back on the road.
Try to keep a pen and paper in your car so that if you do have an accident, you can sketch a diagram of what happened. You can also use the camera on your phone to take a picture of the damage.
With so many unattended cars in the streets and car parks, the games could also be an opportunity for thieves. Make sure that you don’t leave your valuables in your car in plain sight. Leave them at home or store these in the boot instead. If your car doesn’t have an alarm, consider getting a steering wheel lock to deter thieves.
Renting out your home
Renting out your home is a good chance to show some genuine Kiwi hospitality. Just remember that, unfortunately, not all tenants will leave your property in the same condition they found it.
If you’re thinking about renting your property during the games, contact us to ensure you’re adequately covered. In some cases, your HomeCover won’t be affected even if you take in tenants, but special conditions may apply so it’s important to check with us before you rent out your home.
If you’re renting out a fully-furnished home, theft and damage that your tenants cause to your contents won’t be covered under your ContentsCover.
Keeping your home safe
If you’re going away for an extended time to watch the games, advise your neighbours and make sure your home is securely locked.
To feel really secure, check that your contents insurance is accurate and up to date. If you have ContentsCover and something you own is stolen, lost or damaged beyond repair, we can replace it with a brand new item, regardless of the age of the original. This is why it’s important to check that your total sum insured would be enough to replace your contents with *brand new ones. Call us and we can easily update your sum insured over the phone.
