Auckland – 26 February 2011 – AA Insurance wants to reassure Canterbury customers worried about making claims as a result of the Canterbury earthquake.
“Some customers are worried about thefts which have occurred as a result of their home being unsecured after the earthquake,” says Chris Curtin, Chief Executive, AA Insurance. “We ask customers to attempt to secure your home if you can but urge you not to put your own personal safety at risk. We have emergency contractors in the Christchurch area that can assist customers who need help making their homes safe.
“It is important that customers know if you can’t secure your home, and you suffer theft as a result, this won’t affect your claim. You will be covered.
“We want to repeat that you shouldn’t re-enter any building that is not safe. Your personal safety is more important than anything else and we urge you not to take unnecessary risks.
“Secondly, some customers are worried about how insurers will treat damage resulting from Tuesday’s earthquake, about deadlines and whether claims will be treated as new or existing claims,” says Chris. “Our message to customers is, if you’re ready to make your claim – and there’s no hurry to do so as the EQC allows three months to report earthquake claims – you don’t need to worry about this. When you’re ready to call you can rely on us to get your claim started and we as your insurer will sort out the details for you.”
