Often described a Kiwi obsession, fishing gives children a chance to spend quality time with their family, be outdoors and away from gaming consoles. Yet, many children have never held a fishing rod, let alone experienced the thrill of hooking ‘the big one’.
That’s why AA Insurance decided to get on board with the national sponsorship of the Kid’s Gone Fishin’ events run by youth charity, Blue Light. More fishing events means more opportunities for Kiwi kids to experience something new in a safe environment, build positive relations with their parents or caregivers, police and community, and most of all, have fun!
AA Insurance has been Blue Light’s principal sponsor since 2010, and involved in the Auckland Kids’ Gone Fishin’ event from the beginning, with over 2,200 people attending over the weekend last year. This year the company wanted to extend its involvement by helping Blue Light deliver all 13 free events to families throughout New Zealand.
The sponsorship gives children around the country the chance to win a great new AA Insurance Summer/Fishing prize pack, be tempted by the continuous sausage sizzles, and of course, throw in a line. Although if they don’t have their own fishing gear, there’s plenty of free hand lines and bait available at every event.
AA Insurance staff volunteers will also be helping out at four locations – Auckland (28 & 29 January), Wellington (18 March), Raglan (12 November) and Tauranga (5 November) - so keep your eyes peeled for the friendly team wearing yellow branded t-shirts. They’ll be cooking the sausages, painting faces with butterflies, superheroes and pirates, as well as cutting up the bait – and it’s all for free.
