Frequently asked questions

If you can't find the answer you're looking for, please contact us.

Who is covered to ride my motorcycle?

Our motorcycle insurance policies have an open rider policy, unless a special term has been applied to your policy. This means that any licenced rider who has your permission to ride your motorcycle, will be automatically covered, provided they comply with our policy conditions and any applicable licence conditions. For example, riders must not have any unacceptable traffic or criminal convictions and must not have had any unacceptable claims or accidents (for example, a riding using the motorcycle illegally).

Please see your policy document for more information on all policy conditions that you and your riders must comply with.

It’s important to note that excesses relating to age and riding experience may apply to you and your riders. Please see your policy schedule for excesses that may apply and to determine if a special term has been applied to your policy.

Any riders who will be regularly riding your motorcycle should be added to your policy. This is a quick and simple process and ensures you know they are covered should you need to make a claim.

If you have any questions about who is covered to ride your motorcycle or if you’d like to add a rider to your policy, please contact us

What does Agreed Value mean?

Agreed Value is the amount we have agreed to insure your vehicle for and is set at the beginning of each period of cover. The value shown on your policy schedule is what you will receive if your car is written off or stolen and does not change during this period of cover.

Your Agreed Value is automatically reviewed at each renewal and is based on a figure provided by Redbook, a company that specialises in vehicle valuations. They update us with new values on a monthly basis. They calculate valuations using current market conditions such as sales at auction, dealerships, manufacturers, newspapers and field research. It is important you check the value shown on your policy schedule and discuss it with us if you have any concerns.

Is my riding gear covered by my Motorcycle Insurance policy?

The motorcycle policy only provides limited cover for helmets under Comprehensive cover. Any other riding gear such as jackets, pants and shoes are covered under your contents insurance. If you have your motorbike and contents insured with us, you’ll only have to pay one excess – the highest applicable one.
