Contents Insurance Policy Changes

Here’s a summary of the changes to our insurance cover and the key changes to our Contents Insurance policy.

The changes are important, so please take the time to read them over. If you’d like more detail we’ve also included links to the full policy documents.

Changes Overview

Simplified cover

You no longer need to list every item, only the total amount in each category (e.g. your jewellery). Just add up all the pieces you want to include and tell us the total.

Automatic cover for most collections

Coins, cards, stamps and medals are the only types of collections you will now need to tell us about. If you already have another collection insured with us, it’s automatically covered too.

Excess-free hearing aid cover

It’s easy to break or lose hearing aids, so we have introduced a new excess-free option. Just give us a call if you’d like to add it to your insurance.

Increased cover for bikes, cameras and art

We’ve increased the standard limits for bikes, cameras and works of art. 

Cover for your kids at boarding school or university

They can now be covered under your contents insurance up to $5,000.  Plus up to $2 million for their legal liability.

Multi Policy Discount

Get a Multi Policy Discount when you take out any two, or more, policies together. Depending on when you take out your policies, your discount will be applied at the time you pay, or as a refund once your policies have been issued. 

We’ve changed our excess options

Your policy excess  may have changed, just check your new policy schedule for details. 

What policy version
am I on?

You will be on our new policies if your Policy Number starts with AHM and you either:

  • purchased the policy on or after 30 Aug 2016; or
  • have renewed on or after 26 Sep 2016.

You will be on our previous policies if:

  • You will be on this policy if your Policy Number starts with AHM and you:
  • are yet to renew.

What the changes mean for you

You have a new policy number

You now have a new number for each type of cover you have with us. So if you have more than one policy, you’ll receive information about each one, separately in the mail.

We’ve streamlined our payment options

If you use internet banking to pay your annual premium you’ll need to update your Bill Payee to ‘AA Insurance – Premium’ so it goes to the right account. You’ll also need to add your Customer PRN (payment reference number). You can find your PRN in the most recent letter we sent you.

If you pay your premium by fortnightly or monthly direct debit, there’s no change and nothing you need to do.

If you pay your premium by annual direct debit you will need to change your payment method to one of the following options:

Phone: 0800 500 213 to pay using a credit or debit card.

Internet banking: select ‘AA Insurance – Premium’ as the bill payee. Then enter your Customer PRN (payment reference number) in the particulars field.

Pay online

AA Centres: use our Store Locator to find your nearest AA Centre.

If you pay your premium by a quarterly or six-monthly direct debit, this will change to a monthly direct debit. You can find the first payment date and amount in the most recent letter we sent you.
