What is the Big Little Sponsorship?
Our Big Little Sponsorship celebrates our partnership with Eden Park by championing grassroots sport in schools and giving something back to the communities around us. Over the past seven years, we've asked New Zealanders to nominate primary schools across the nation who are in need of a helping hand. So far, we’ve supported 25 schools and given them a total of $138,000, which they’ve used to update their sporting infrastructure and buy sports equipment.
Our Big Little Sponsorship 2025 winners
Last year, our judges selected Mahana School near Nelson, Matipo School in Auckland, Our Lady of Kapiti School in Wellington and Ōhaupō School in Waikato as our winners who each won a $10,000 sports grant.
Mahana School used the sports grant to buy sports equipment and update their sports shed and sports equipment. Tumuaki (Principal) Clay Boyd was delighted to accept the sports grant:
“We're absolutely thrilled to receive the $10,000 award from AA Insurance! As a smaller school, we often miss out on opportunities like this, so it was a wonderful surprise. This generous boost of hope will allow us to revitalise our deteriorating sports shed and equipment. We're looking forward to investing in general sports gear and exploring sustainable outdoor fun, like outdoor table tennis or boxing, for all our students to enjoy. Thank you, AA Insurance, for this incredible opportunity!”
Matipo School in Auckland intend to use the sports grant to provide students with new sports uniforms, giving every student the opportunity to participate in sport at school. Tumuaki (Principal) Jonnie Black was delighted to accept the sports grant:
“This is a game changer for us. It’s not just about new gear—it’s about confidence, inclusion, and giving our kids the chance to shine.”
Give your local primary school a chance to win!
Now it’s your turn to give your local primary school a chance to win this year’s Big Little Sponsorship. Nominations are open from Monday 8th March to Sunday 19th April. Your nominations give our littlest athletes a chance to reach their sporting dreams. There are even more chances to win this year, with ten $10,000 sports grants to be awarded to the most deserving schools across Aotearoa.
To nominate your chosen primary school, enter your details in the nomination form. Answer all the questions with as much detail as possible; the more information you can provide to support your nomination, the better our judges can understand the school.
To help you with your submission, here are the criteria our judges use to find our winners:
Eligibility: any primary school in New Zealand that hasn’t previously won a grant can be nominated and apply. A $10,000 prize will be given to ten deserving primary schools across New Zealand.
Strength of nomination: our judges will be looking at how many unique nominations each primary school receives and evaluating the primary school’s need for support, so we can make sure the sponsorship has the biggest impact.
Value of winning: clearly outlining how a $10,000 sports grant could help the primary school overcome the challenges they face when organising sports activities can help make your nomination stand out.
The importance of sport: we want to make sure we award the ten sports grants to primary schools that value sport and the role it plays for children at school.
