AA Insurance places third in the Kantar Corporate Reputation Index
The insurer has moved from sixth to third place and is the only general insurer ranked in the top 10.
Chief Marketing and Product Officer Shaun Rees said the result comes during particularly challenging times for organisations and communities across New Zealand.
“It’s been a tough year for many Kiwi communities and businesses, with ongoing cost pressures, the fuel crisis, and a steady run of bad weather taking their toll.
“In that context, we’re grateful for this result, which reflects the trust our customers place in us to be there when they need us most.
When things get difficult, our people step in, take ownership and get things sorted for customers. That’s what builds trust over time.”
The annual Kantar Corporate Reputation Index, established in collaboration with Wright Communications, employs Kantar’s globally validated RepZ framework, comprising reputation attributes of Trust (35% weighting), Leadership/Success (24%), Fairness (23%), and Responsibility (18%).
Kantar Insights Chief Client Officer Sarah Bolger said the 2026 results reflected a further reinforcement in what New Zealanders value most from corporate brands.
“In a year marked by economic pressure, global uncertainty and declining trust in many institutions, New Zealanders are rewarding companies that feel dependable, consistent and genuinely useful in their everyday lives.
The highest-performing brands are not necessarily the loudest or most aspirational. They are the organisations people believe will turn up, deliver value, treat customers fairly and behave responsibly when times are tough.”
Over the past year, AA Insurance has supported customers through a steady run of weather events across the country, with teams repeatedly mobilising to assist with disruption and recovery.
While not defined by one large-scale disaster, a steady run of severe weather made it AA Insurance’s second-highest year on record for weather-related claims.
“We are grateful for the recognition and really pleased to be named in the top three for the first time. We have never taken this position for granted and will continue to look for ways to deliver the trust, fairness and leadership New Zealanders deserve.
“At the end of the day, earning trust is about doing right by people – and that’s something that remains central to who we are,” Shaun said.
